Which Types of Locks Locksmith Can Advise to Install

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
Karina Lee asked:

Family security is everyone’s top priority. The two-income household has created a tremendous need for a secure way to store keys so school-age children can easily access their homes. It also means that homeowners aren’t typically home when service work needs to be done.

As you know, security starts at your front door, which is why many customers choose from a complete line of fully-integrated locksmith security solutions. Locksmith can evaluate the existing security of your home, office or vehicle and can make suggestions for upgrades, improvements or a completely new installation.

Locksmith can offer you the following services:

• All types of key cutting

• Keys by code

• Restricted systems

• Installation of all locks

• Custom-made keys for your locks

• Electronic locks

• Car locks

• Safes

• Automatic entry systems

Requirements for specific fixing of locksets to ensure maximum security has resulted many categories of lock types. And locksmith can supply and install a wide variety of locks, including:

• Cylinder Rim Locks - Includes rim latches, cylinder drawback locks, cylinder nightlatches, APG locks, rim deadlocks, deadbolts and rollerbolts etc. Cylinder rim locks are available with a wide range of different security and operational features. The basic model is a simple latch that can be opened at all times from the inside and released with a key from the outside. Top-of-the-range models will incorporate additional functions such as double-locking, dead-locking, resistance to hacksaw and drill attack and resistance to picking.

• Key in Knob/Lever

• Tubular Deadbolt - It can be opened from the inside by operating the lever unless it has been deadlocked from the outside with a reverse turn of the key. The latch can be held back by using the snib.

The outside operation is by key, but this can be disabled by using the snib button on the inside as a crude deadlock function. A reverse turn of the key will deadlock both the inside lever and the bolt - this prevents intruders from gaining access via another means and releasing the lock with the lever, but also means that it is possible to lock people indoors.

• Cylinder Mortice Lock which many locksmith shops offer - Includes deadlocks, sashlocks, knobsets, nightlatches, sliding and metal door locks, plus panel locks etc.

• PADLOCKS - Includes easy-to-use product selector for brass bodied padlocks, lever, cylinder, discus, laminated and combination padlocks, plus padbars, hasps and staples etc.

• CABINET AND CAMLOCKS - Includes cupboard locks, filing cabinet locks, camlocks and accessories, locker locks, box locks, till locks etc.

• DOOR AND WINDOW - Includes metal/wooden window locks, door chains and bolts, multiple application locks, merchandisers etc.

• MISCELLANEOUS - includes bullet & shutter locks, parking posts, wheel clamps, gun cabinet locks, sae locks, vehicle locks, garage door handles etc.

• Keyless Locks - Digital locks are very popular for access control. This allows authorised users access to secure areas without needing to issue keys. A range of different lock types and applications are available. Locksmiths can help with choosing the most cost effective and secure lock to suit your requirements. Models available now include stainless steel digital locks which have a higher level of corrosion resistance.

If you want to complete home security, you can improve protection of your house by burglar alarm. Most criminals would rather target a home or business which is NOT protected by a burglar alarm. Furthermore, government statistics show that the majority of burglaries carried out on protected homes are actually unsuccessful, which proves that burglar alarms are an effective form of protection and a deterrent to most prospective burglars.

Crucial Pointers To Consider During Cases of Locked Out

Thursday, December 24th, 2009
Kenny Doucette asked:

As much as we absolutely prefer not to think of it, the possibility of being locked out of one’s home does remain a possibility. After all, people do lose their keys and once that happens, a lock is pretty much going to stand in your way from entering your home or business. You could try to open the window, but if you are a careful person, you have probably installed industrial strength locks. That means the window is not going to open either! Thankfully, there is an option available and it involves calling a qualified professional locksmith to get you out of your current jam.

No matter how strong the lock may be, a qualified professional locksmith can definitely open the lock. Usually, the locksmith will have the ability to open the lock in a rather expedient manner. That is why it is wise to avoid panicking when you experience an unfortunate lockout. There are locksmiths out there that have a great deal of experience dealing with emergency lockouts. That means they know exactly what to do when such a situation occurs. All you need to do is given them a call and they will deliver an immediate response.

Some may wonder what they can do when the emergency situation occurs well past business hours. Yes, people do lose their keys at 3AM and this can create a very serious situation. Thankfully, there are professional locksmiths that offer 24 hour service, 7 days a week, all throughout the year. But, does this mean you will receive an immediate response? A quality professional locksmith can definitely deliver in this regard. In fact, it may be possible to receive a response within 15 minutes to a half an hour after you place the call. As such, no matter what time of the day or night it is, you need not fret about gaining access to your home, business, or even your automobile.

What type of services can be performed when an emergency situation arises? There are a great many approaches that can be taken. Key replacement or key making can be performed so that you have a new key in which to open the door. Of course, in certain situations, the locksmith may be required to pick the lock so as to open it. Granted, this may take a little time but it can be done and you will gain access to your home, office, or car.

Actually, it is even possible to have a lock INSTALLED in an emergency situation as well. Yes, you can have virtually any locksmith service performed no matter what time of the day or not. There really are no limits to the emergency service that is being performed. Any quality, professional locksmith service will offer such services and that is why their value can never be overstated.

Once again, there is no reason to worry when you are locked out of your house. A professional emergency response lock smith can help reverse a bad situation and open doors that were previously locked…literally.

Pittsburgh Locksmith Service: Car Locksmith, Emergency Locksmith, Commercial & Residential Locksmith

Thursday, December 24th, 2009
fashionstreet asked:

What to expect from a locksmith company?

Locksmith services will vary, depending on the specific type of locksmith you wish to hire. In any case, however, you should expect to receive expert advice and excellent results when you hire any type of qualified locksmith, whether they happen to be a car locksmith, commonly known as an auto locksmith, or a residential locksmith. Below is a brief outline of the services typically offered by a common type of locksmith:

Car locksmith

An auto locksmith is often called upon to provide emergency locksmith services. Examples of situations in which this type of emergency service may be required include locking keys in a vehicle, losing keys, or breaking a key off in the ignition. A locksmith responding to this type of situation will be able to use an auto locksmith tool to provide locksmith car opening services. Other locksmith services this type of locksmith can provide include key making and key replacing for the vehicle’s ignition or doors.

Emergency locksmith

Aside from providing services to car owners, this type of locksmith can also assist home and business owners. If a homeowner is locked out of their house, for example, emergency lockout/opening services can usually be provided. Using a specialized locksmith tool or a technique known as lock bumping, the locksmith will be able to quickly gain access to the home. Commercial customers can enlist the help of this type of locksmith if they have been the victim of a burglary. Related services could include repairing any door lock that may have been broken. Many locksmith services that respond to emergencies offer toll free 24hr fast response, so the residential customer or business owner can expect an immediate response and fast service.

Residential or commercial locksmith

Installing residential locks and commercial locks are among the standard locksmith services offered by this type of locksmith. You can expect the locksmith to be knowledgeable about the best types of locks on the market, and he can probably tell you which ones are suitable to meet your individual home and business security needs. Installation/repair/change/upgrade any type of lock services are also offered to most homeowners and commercial customers.

What many people don’t realize, however, is that many locksmiths can offer customized and advanced locksmith services to enhance the security of your home or business. Not all do, however, and the availability of these services will depend on the locksmith supply in your area. Some examples of devices that may be able to be installed by a local locksmith include alarm systems, remote security sensors, and CCTV/wireless CCTV systems to detect intruders and monitor your home and business, along with the surrounding property. There are also many access control systems, including intercom systems and phone systems. These would be especially useful for business owners who find it necessary to restrict access to specific buildings and/or other secure areas.

These are the major types of locksmiths and the typical services they provide. Depending on your location, however, you may not have access to all services mentioned. You should contact your local companies to find out about the specific services they offer, and how they may benefit you as a home owner, business operator, car owner, or somebody who may one day urgently require the services of a locksmith.

Jacksonville Burglaries Underscore Need for Locksmith Services

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
24/7 Locksmith asked:

We would all like to feel as though our homes are completely safe and impenetrable, but   when you move into a new house, there is no reason to expect that it is completely secure and equipped with modern, up-to-date security solutions.  Many homeowners do not realize that the stock locks that have been installed around their homes may not be enough.  There is a lot that a qualified residential locksmith can do to make it practically impossible for a burglar to compromise your home security.  Unfortunately, too many homeowners don’t think about calling a locksmith until it is too late.

There have been a series of home burglaries in Jacksonville and Baker counties over the last year or so, and when you see these types of trends you need to consider being proactive and taking your home security to another level.  Being wise and taking prudent steps to protect your family and your property is just good common sense, and clearly, burglars target the homes and businesses that are the easiest to enter.  If you have quality security locks installed around your home, the thieves are not going to waste their time with your property.  They will move on to the houses that have old, low-end locks that could have been replaced for a tiny fraction of the cost of a home intrusion.

The Rolling Meadows neighborhood was being targeted recently, and the First Coast News is reporting that the police have arrested a suspect that they believe is guilty of this spate of burglaries and perhaps others in Baker and Jacksonville counties.  Jay Calvert, a 42-year-old Maclenny resident, admitted to police that he committed three burglaries in the Rolling Meadows subdivision.   He is believed to have been involved in the Ace Hardware heist that took place in Glen St. Mary in May, and officials feel as though he may also be connected to a series of construction site burglaries in Jacksonville.

“He was a sheetrock sub-contractor and that’s how he’d go in and see appliances and come back at night and steal the appliances…We found a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher (at Calvert’s home) — things they were using in their house that were stolen,” said Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson.

This is interesting to any Jacksonville locksmith, because there are modern keyless entry systems that enable homeowners to allow limited access to people like contractors or domestic employees.  Users can program the access code to allow entry only during certain times of the day and/or particular days of the week.  Plus, when you have a keyless entry system installed, there is no risk of duplicate keys floating around, which could stem back from when the house was actually being built.

Fortunately, Calvert was been apprehended and Rolling Meadows residents can breathe a sigh of relief.  But this series of burglaries underscores the need for enhanced home security.

The Future of Security: Finger Print Door Locks

Sunday, December 20th, 2009
Avidbiometrics asked:

If you’re looking for an easy way to enhance your home or offices security and lose that heavy key chain, look no further than a fingerprint door lock.  Fingerprint door locks function similar to traditional key locks and deadbolts, only instead of using a key to unlock the lock, you can open and lock the door with just a press of your fingerprint.

Fingerprint door locks utilize biometric technology by capturing a unique record (through your fingerprint or thumb print) and allow access to anyone whose identity has been recorded as an authorized individual.  Most fingerprint door locks use a spring type latch, have a handle and can be opened with either the fingerprint or a mechanical key.

How do you Install a Fingerprint Door Lock?

Easier then you think.  Most biometric door locks only require one or two holes to be drilled into the door to mount and secure the lock or deadbolt.  If you’re not up for the task, a local locksmith will usually install a lock for fifty to one hundred dollars depending on the specific door lock you buy.

Once you install a finger print door lock, you might wonder how you lived without one.  No more fumbling through keys in the dark or locking yourself out of the house.  Additionally, biometric door locks are generally more secure than traditional key units.  They’re more resistant to breakins, as people can not simply pick the lock.

Also, some of the best fingerprint door locks have self locking mechanisms that lock themselves after the door has been closed for a specific amount of time (5, 10, 15 minutes, etc).  This takes the worry out of wondering if you locked the door before you left.

Although the technology was off to a slow start, biometric door locks are now dependable, durable, and most of all affordable.

Hank. G asked:

No matter where you are in the world, it is important to know the name of a solid locksmith in your area. This way, you can be sure to keep yourself safe in the event of an accident or emergency. A locksmith can perform a number of functions to keep you and your home that much safer and secure. The following are just some of the things a locksmith can do for you.

One of the chief functions of a locksmith is to specialize in locks. This professional will not only be able to fit your home with locks and keys that will keep you safe but will also be able to come at a moment’s notice to change your locks in the event that they break or if there has been a security breach. Lock replacements can stop even the most experienced of thieves. If you have recently dealt with a messy break-up or divorce, this is yet another reason to consider a lock change.

Lock picking defined by Carlsbad Locksmiths:

Friday, December 11th, 2009
mysandiegolocksmith asked:

The study about key in itself is a whole new subject of research.  Carlsbad Locksmiths deals with mechanical locks and keys that are used to protect homes and institutions. However, there are other kinds of keys which relate to electronics and encryption which are very leniently related to mechanical locks and keys.  Kinds of electronic encryption are associated with electronic locks and most Carlsbad Locksmiths deal with electronic locks. Bitting is one such study of keys. In physical from it forms the part of a key that initiates tumblers in the lock to move and open. These bittings are always converted in the form of numbers. These numbers or integers tell a key maker how to go about designing the key.

There is chart specially made for locksmith and is often termed a s the map of a locksmith. This chart is called bitting code list. Eagle Lock Company, which is one of the most famous and trusted lock and key designers have standardized this bitting code for all Carlsbad Locksmiths for generations to come. Carlsbad Locksmiths and locksmiths all over the world have agreed to these numbers that will determine the depth of a cut or notch in the key. The key maker in the Matrix movie is not a simple man to be shot down after all.  The bitting sequence can however vary according to the style of the locksmith. For example, companies like Best Locking Systems use tip to bow representation while others use the other way around. Again, the number can determine the depth of the cut and it is not compulsory for locksmiths to follow a rule that higher the number deeper the cut. Assa is one such company that uses reverse mechanism.  The lower the digit, deeper is the notch or the cut. These numbers or codes of bitting are helpful while designing new keys in replacement for a lost key.

Locksport is a hobby extensively practiced by Carlsbad Locksmiths. They pick locks because it gives them pleasure and they take up new challenges with higher lock systems.  It is enjoyable to study about locks and keys once a curious person gets a hang of the basics of lock picking. Carlsbad locksmiths is filled with these kinds of lock enthusiast or in other words locksmiths.  The issue of lock picking and the legal rights for lock picking varies in different states.  If you are found to have lock picking tools they are considered to be illegal because any lock picking tool is considered to be as equally dangerous as having a crowbar with you, that is most often used for burglary.

However, some of the states allow you to carry lock picking tools provided that you carry some form of license or a proof of intent regarding your lock picking tool.  Carlsbad Locksmith is always certified by law and license is given to them according to their work in this field.  In the state of California possession of lock picking tools by a layman may not be condemned as criminal act.

Do You Need High Security Locks?

Friday, December 11th, 2009
Yodle asked:

The term “high security locks” can apply to many types of locks, ranging from digital keys, fingerprint scanners or magnetic locks with auditing auditing systems. Unless you are a Saudi oil sheik or the President’s daughter, your home probably won’t need such advanced systems, says Robert Campbell, a locksmith who owns Advantage Locksmith in New York City.

Most high security locks for residential homes are usually those that sport more advanced double-sided keys such as those made by Mul-T-Lock or Medeco. The lower ends of these locks, which is probably all you will need for your home, use a telescopic pin tumbler mechanism with internal and external pins. They also have steel inserts which prevent drilling and picking. The most useful feature of these locks, however, is that their keys are “restricted” and cannot be easily copied.

Thirty percent of all burglaries are unlawful entry without force, meaning the thief had a key. Chances are, your keys can be duplicated anywhere keys are made, such as hardware stores and discount stores, and it only takes a few minutes.

Remember is that it is all relative. If you live in an apartment building and everyone on your floor has high security locks but you don’t because you decided it was not worth it to spend that money, then you will more likely be the victim of an attempted break in  That’s because it is easier for a burglar to gain access to your apartment [than the others]. The other consideration is that a lot of high security locks nowadays come with restricted keys, meaning nobody can copy the key but you. That is a benefit which many people want to take advantage of even if they do not think a break in is imminent. Restricted keys add a extra sense of security.

If you don’t want somebody who is unethical to make a copy of your key, restricted keys nip that option in the bud. If you are at work and you put your keys down, you don’t need to worry. If you have people who you lend your keys to like your maid, temporary roommate, or friend staying at your place for a week, you will feel comfortable knowing these people cannot make a copy of the key because it is restricted. So it is often not just that these locks are high security, meaning they are virtually unpickable. But they also provide restricted keys, giving people the added security of knowing they are the only ones who can copy their key.
